Shooting on Washington Boulevard leads to arrest

A 24-year-old Granger Road man faces numerous charges in connection with a shooting incident on Washington Boulevard late Monday evening.

According to an Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department report, the man was arrested at a Granger Road house after he fled from the scene of the alleged shooting on Washington Boulevard. The sergeant who made the arrest had to take the man to the ground, according to the report.

Earlier in the evening, the suspect and a 29-year-old Washington Boulevard man had an altercation over a girl while at the Granger Road residence. The suspect allegedly broke out a window of a car belonging to the 29-year-old man, who then drove back to his parents’ home on Washington Boulevard.

The suspect showed up in the front yard of that house with a single-shot shotgun and discharged one round. The 29-year-old and his 49-year-old father came out of the house; the son, who had been in the altercation on Granger Road, tackled the intruder.

While the two men scuffled, the father wrested the gun from the subject and disarmed the weapon. The suspect bit the 29-year-old’s arm at least twice and the wounds were bleeding when deputies arrived at the scene, according to the report.

At least one spent shell was located on the Washington Boulevard property. The shooter was highly intoxicated, the report stated.

Charges include felonious assault, discharge of a firearm in a prohibited area and using a weapon while intoxicated.
