Conneaut’s annual Fourth of July Festival will cover three days, culminating with a Saturday evening fireworks display, organizers said.
The event will be held July 4-6 at Lakeview Park and includes the return of the popular “Conneaut Idol” singing competition, sponsored by the local Dairy Queen Restaurant. Rides, games and an array of vendors also will be featured.
The extravaganza kicks off July 4 with a 3:15 p.m. parade on Depot Street and culminates at the festival midway. Opening ceremonies will be followed by four different pageants for young girls at the festival stage (4:30-6:30 p.m.); the first two rounds “Idol” (7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.); and performances by Match Point, a rock/country band (8:30 and 10:30 p.m.)
Entertainment on July 5 includes an array of fun contests, including watermelon- and pizza-eating competitions (4:30 p.m.); the third and fourth rounds of “Idol” (5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.) and country music (8 p.m. and 10 p.m.)
The festival’s final day will be packed with activities, starting with “Minute-To-Win-It” games for kids and adults (1 p.m.); the fifth- and semi-final rounds of “Idol” ( 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively); “Idol” finals (8 p.m.); and music by rock/country/blues band Larry, Darryl, Darryl and Cheryl (3 p.m.), and Scarecrow, a John Cougar Mellencamp tribute band (9 p.m. and 11 p.m.).
In a departure, the city’s holiday fireworks display will be held at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, not on a Sunday as in recent years.
The festival midway will be open 4 p.m.-midnight on July 4-5 and noon to midnight on July 6.
