D&D Auto Service offers family-oriented environment

ASHTABULA — Dustin Pal and Derik Mullins have made a family affair out of car repair.

The brothers, along with their wives Erica Pal and Kylie Richards, own and operate D&D Auto Service in Ashtabula. Mullins and Pal opened their Main Avenue location last year, at the former Roy and Ray’s.

In May, they expanded their operation with their West Avenue location, formerly Ted’s Auto Service and Sales, which they took over for their father.

Pal and Mullins pride themselves on running a truly family-oriented establishment. Both brothers got their start in the business by working with their father.

D&D Auto specializes in almost everything, except for body work, Mullins said. They also provide a towing service and specialize in used tire sales.

“We have about 3,000 used tires in stock at all times,” Mullins said. “It seems to be big business around here.”

D&D also does custom exhaust work as well as a lot of underbody suspension work, Pal said.

They also provide routine maintenance including oil changes and tire rotations.

Mullins said what sets D&D Auto apart from all the rest is they are family-owned and operated, honest and trustworthy and try to give a good reasonable price to their customers.

About 80 percent of their customers are repeat customers, whether it be former customers of Roy and Ray’s or former customers of their father, Mullins said.

Erica Pal and Richards handle the business-side of things.

“We truly do everything but fix the cars and I’m not going that route,” Erica said.

Richards operates the Main Avenue location while Erica operates the West Avenue location.

“Whatever location you go to, there will be a set of spouses there,” Erica said.

The women do everything from answer phones, call in parts and bookkeeping to providing transportation for customers.

“We don’t loan cars, but we will pick our customers up and drop them off,” Mullins said.
