Winter coats needed for local families

JEFFERSON — The winter season is just starting and Spiderweb is in need of warm outerwear for the entire family.

The Winter Room opened Sept. 15 and since that time 456 coats were given out for 850 people, these numbers represent a 50 percent increase from this time last year. Spiderweb takes coats, hats, gloves, boots, and scarves that are clean and in good repair.

Donations that came in during the summer were stored, waiting until the cold season was here, but that supply has dwindled to almost nothing.

Coats for all members of the family as well as boots, hats, gloves and scarves are being requested by the community.

Spiderweb has seen an overall increase of new clients plus those that have used its services before returning, so that means more supply is needed.

Spiderweb is asking residents to go through their closets and donate their coats, mittens, hats and boots that they no longer use. All donations can be dropped off at Spiderweb, and are tax deductible. The Clothes Closet is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and Tuesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Call Spiderweb at 440-576-4547 for more information about volunteer opportunities and about the other services offered for residents of Ashtabula County. Spiderweb is an Ashtabula County United Way agency.
