Ashtabula Area City School District’s website more student, parent friendly

SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP —

The Ashtabula Area City School District’s website has a new look.

The new site is at www.aacs.net, which is the same address as the old one.

Changes were made under the direction of teacher Andrea Tredent, who also runs Channel 19. She presented the website at Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting at Lakeside High School.

One of Tredent’s goals was to make the district’s website more parent and student friendly, she said.

As the school district migrates content to the new design, visitors to the website will see many new improvements, including:

• Synchronized content with Channel 19;

• A new home page with a new design;

• Video on right, and

• Links to the Ohio Department of Education.

Tredent showed the video, featuring Superintendent Patrick Colucci and the district’s principals, to the delight of the audience.

“It’s a spectacular video,” Tredent said.

By the audience’s applause, they seemed to agree.

“We’ve worked very hard to improve our communication so everyone sees the great things we are doing in our district,” Colucci said. “This is good stuff.”

Any video on Channel 19 can be viewed on the website, Tredent said.

“It looks great,” said Janine Trebuchon-Wertz, board member.

In other business, the school board approved an amendment to the student handbook, allowing suspended students to make up school work for half credit under established late work guidelines.

Don Rapose, principal of Lakeside High School, recommended the change.

The handbook now states, “Students in grades 9-12, suspended out of school, will not be permitted to make up work.”

Rapose recommended the change because it still provides consequence for bad behavior, while allowing the students the opportunity to recover academically. Also, 50 percent of the new teacher evaluation system is based on student performance and growth, he said.
