State Sen. Nina Turner from Cleveland is slated to be the guest speaker at the Ashtabula County chapter of the NAACP’s Annual Freedom Fund Dinner.
The NAACP will award a deserving student a college scholarship at the dinner, set for Sept. 28 at the Elks Club, 3448 Lake Road, beginning with a social hour at 5 p.m., and dinner at 5:45 p.m.
Last year, Kailil Chatman, now 19 and sophomore at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, was awarded a $500 college scholarship. An honor student and athlete in LHS’s Class of 2012, Chatman is interested in neuroscience.
“This year’s dinner promises to be an exciting event,” Holman said. “We have an inspiring guest speaker.”
There also will be a presentation by a multi-cultural choir and a fall fashion review.
A portion of the proceeds will go to fund the scholarship. All sponsors will be recognized in the program. Individual tickets are $35, but tickets are available by a table of eight for $280. Make checks payable to Ashtabula NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner, 1123 W. 43rd St., Ashtabula, OH 44004.
