Commissioners seek funding for Route 534 waterline project

JEFFERSON — Ashtabula County Commissioners approved a resolution, Tuesday, authorizing the filing of an application with the Ohio Public Works Commission for the joint Route 534 sanitary and water improvement project with Geneva-on-the-Lake.

The $500,000 project will replace 1,300 feet of aging water line along Route 534, said Larry Meaney, director of the Ashtabula County Department of Environmental Services.

“It’s a nice capital improvement project for both Geneva-on-the-Lake and the county,” he said.

The county is requesting $299,900 from OPWC. The request is for a grant in the amount of $249,900, with the remaining $50,000 being a zero interest loan.

Meaney said the $50,000 loan is written into the grant as leverage money to gain more points to secure the grant. He said his department will still meet its carry-over at the end of the year.

The local match for funding the project will come from Community Development Block Grant funds, Meaney said.

In other business, commissioners approved:

• A resolution receiving proposals for senior services programs through the Ashtabula County Department of Job and Family Services Senior Services Levy. The proposals were tabled for further examination;

• A resolution receiving proposals for senior transportation and volunteer senior transportation services through the ACDJFS Senior Services Levy. The proposals were tabled for further examination;

• A resolution approving amendments to health and employment related transportation contracts with City Taxicab and Transfer Co., Ashtabula County Transportation System and Country Neighbor Program;

• Approving an amendment to the Ohio Works First and Prevention, Retention and Contingency Services (PRC) contract with Goodwill industries of Ashtabula;

• Approving amendments to the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) contracts with Family Planning Association of Northeast Ohio, Catholic Charities of Ashtabula County and Ashtabula County Technical and Career Center; and,

• A resolution authorizing the filing of an application with the Ohio Public Works Commission for the Meadowood Allotment Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project.

A number of travel expenses were also approved.
