AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP —
Forget the jelly beans — this year the Easter Bunny is bringing dog biscuits.
Austinburg Veterinary Clinic will host the annual Doggy Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at Austinburg Township Park.
“We do the egg hunt every year and it is so much fun,” clinic owner and veterinarian Becky Salinger said. “We fill about 1,000 plastic eggs with dog treats and we host it just like an egg hunt for kids.”
The event is free for dogs and their owners and Salinger said some dogs come in their bunny, chick and egg costumes.
“It is so cute to see the dogs in their costumes,” she said.
Registration begins at 2 p.m. behind the church at the park and the egg hunt starts at 2:30 p.m.
The event will include door prizes, an appearance by the Easter Bunny, and nail trim services by donation.
The toenail trim donations will benefit the clinic’s Pets Helping Pets Fund, which helps finance unforeseen, unpreventable veterinary care for those who cannot afford it.
Salinger said the fund primarily helps senior citizen pet owners living on a fixed income.
“Most of the cases the fund helps are surgical,” she said. “It could be a dog with tumor or a cat with an emergency urinary blockage — those kind of life-threatening situations.”
Salinger said the egg hunt will be held snow or rain or shine.
“Even if we have snow, we will still do the egg hunt,” she said. “We are looking forward to it no matter what. We have fun every year it is such a good time.”
All pets must be leashed, healthy and current on vaccinations. Aggressive animals should not attend. For more information call 275-1071.
The clinic also has a new website, complete with a pet symptom checker. Visit www.austinburgvetclinic.com for more details.
