Put on your poodle skirt and get ready to bop to the beat with Girl Scouts of America Northeast Ohio.
Regional Girl Scout recruitment will be in full swing, membership volunteer program specialist Chris Hancock said, with a Mom and Me Sock Hop on Saturday.
“We are really trying to recruit new adult volunteers and new Girl Scouts,” Hancock said. “We have so many girls who are interested in scouting, but we also have a critical shortage of adult volunteers to build troops.”
Hancock said troop leaders are needed across Ashtabula County and into Madison.
“This isn’t just in Ashtabula — we need leaders in Geneva, Orwell, Madison and across the area,” she said.
The free sock hop will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E. Jefferson St. Music and refreshments will be provided. To register for the sock hop, call Hancock at (330) 989-7002.
“The registration fee for Girl Scouts is $12, and leaders and girls can sign up right at the sock hop,” Hancock said.
Troop leaders are involved with a group of girls — at any age level — to help guide them through activities and trips that help build girls of courage confidence and character, Hancock said.
Troops can be led by one or two troop leaders or by a co-op of mothers. At least two adults must be present for each meeting. Leaders are responsible for organizing the meetings and trips, making sure appropriate forms are completed, and must attend monthly service unit meetings. Troop meetings can be held monthly, bi-monthly or weekly.
