Buckeye BOE deems additional tax levy a necessity

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — The Buckeye Local Board of Education Monday approved a resolution declaring it necessary to place an  additional levy request on the November election ballot.

The continuing 4.7-mill tax levy will pay for current expenses, according to the resolution.

Buckeye Local Schools Treasurer, Sherry Williamson, said this resolution declares the need for such a levy.

The school board will vote on a second resolution at its regular meeting, set for 7 p.m. July 15 at Braden Junior High School.

The second resolution, if passed, will actually place the levy on the ballot, Williamson said.

If approved by voters Nov. 4, the tax would first be levied in 2014 for its first collection in 2015, according to the resolution.

In other news, the school board:

• Approved a contract with the Adult Basic Literacy Program to provide services to identify Limited English Proficient students for the 2014-15 school year;

• Approved a one-year agreement with the YMCA to provide childcare services at Kingsville and Ridgeview elementary schools;

• Accepted the resignation of Joseph Foderetti, head boys golf coach, and Nicole Dufour, senior class co-advisor;

• Accepted the retirement of Edward Dick, social studies teacher at Edgewood High School, who served the Buckeye Schools for 20 years, and

• Appointed Steve Kray to the head girls basketball coach position, and John Bowler, head boys basketball coach.
