N. Bloomfield man dies in ATV crash with Amish buggy

COLEBROOK TOWNSHIP — A 24-year-old North Bloomfield man was killed in a crash Sunday night involving an all-terrain vehicle and an Amish buggy, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Thomas D. Molinatto Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene on Fenton Road at 10:12 p.m., said Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office Investigator Rich Mongell.

Molinatto was northbound on Fenton Road, driving a 2004 Polaris Predator 4x4 ATV. Molinatto’s girlfriend, Kristen Nemerovsky, 22, of Warren, was a passenger on the ATV, according to OHP.

A horse-drawn buggy, driven by Nathan Miller, 16, of Orwell, was southbound on Fenton Road and attempted to enter a private drive on the east side of the road, OHP reports.

The buggy failed to yield the right of way while turning left and was struck by the ATV. Both units ran off the roadway. Molinatto and Nemerovsky were both ejected from the ATV and the buggy overturned, OHP reports. The crash occurred at about 9:58 p.m.

Mongell said Molinatto was wearing a helmet, but it didn’t help. He was thrown about 15 to 20 feet when he was ejected, he said.

Nemerovsky was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown for treatment of her injuries. Mongell said she is expected to OK. She was also wearing a helmet, OHP reports.

Miller and his two passengers, Daniel Miller, 16, of Windsor, and AndyRay Miller, 15, of West Farmington, were not transported.

Mongell said the horse also perished in the crash.

Molinatto’s body was sent to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Preliminary autopsy results show he died from blunt trauma to the head, Mongell said.

“He had multiple skull fractures,” he said. “He died almost instantly.”

Mongell said Molinatto’s helmet was cracked from the impact.

The Orwell Volunteer Fire Department and South Central Ambulance District also responded to the crash.
