GENEVA — The Geneva Chamber of Commerce is looking to promote local businesses  in a new way.

Save Local Now, launched as, is also a deal and event application for iPhone and Android cellular telephones. Similar to Groupon, Save Local Now is free to the consumer, but has no minimum purchase requirement or group participation requirement. For local business owners, Save Local Now is instant, with no delays in uploading special offers to subscribed buyers, Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sue Ellen Foote said.

The program is GPS based and anyone can download it free from the Google Play Store on any cellular telephone.

“Merchants can immediately a access their business profile, change deals, events or promotions without waiting for a third-party administrator,” she said.

Save Local Now is also free to all business members and organizations in the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce.

Foote said other areas in the region are already using the application, such as Akron, Chargrin Falls and Concord-Leroy.

“This is certainly an incentive to shop locally,” Foote said, noting that residents and tourists can benefit from the great deals.

“Each business decides what deal or incentive to offer and for how long,” she said.

Another advantage is the freedom of choosing the deal, Foote said.

“Businesses are not required to offer discounts of 50 percent off or 75 percent off,” she said, “Which is the case with some well-known daily deal programs. Save Local Now is a win for businesses and customers.”
