Coffee house opens in Geneva

GENEVA — Twenty years of hard work, and dreaming, paid off for Ed and Judy Fleisher who recently opened Scribblers Coffee Company on Route 534 about a mile south of Route 20.

“We have roasted coffee for 20 years,” Ed Fleisher said while preparing for a grand opening ribbon cutting on Tuesday morning. He said the cafe will provide a place for people to purchase a variety of drinks and food in the historic old hospital building.

“We just wanted to create a place that is inviting,” Judy Fleisher said. She said the couple invested in the business during the coffee revolution that started in Seattle in 1993 and after retirement they are ready to take it to the next level.

Judy said the couple waited for the perfect place and are excited about opening the new cafe. “Everything is made from scratch,” she said of the menu that includes a variety of sandwiches, salads and pastry.

The cafe will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week, Ed said.

“We roasted for local businesses,” she said of the first 20 years of the business. Judy said there is a small group meeting available that holds up to 40 people for meetings.

City officials and employees gathered on the front steps of the business for a ribbon cutting Tuesday morning before employees went back inside to begin selling a wide variety of food and drinks.
