JEFFERSON — A 37-year-old Eastlake woman, arrested for beating her 80-year-old grandmother, earlier this month, pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge Monday.

Shannon D. Costella, 1273 E. 348th St., appeared before Judge Robert Wynn with attorney Joseph Humpolick and entered the guilty plea on the original domestic violence charge, according to a court spokesperson.

Costella was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 104 days suspended. She was given credit for 16 days already served and will serve out the remaining 60 days. She was also given one year of probation, according to a court spokesperson.

Costella was arrested July 6 after beating the 80-year-old in the forehead 10 times. The victim required stitches, according to Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department reports.

The victim told deputies she had an argument with Costella and smacked her for calling her names and Costella then attacked her, according to reports.

The incident occurred in the 6000 block of Marvin Road in Andover Township.

According to sheriff reports, Costella told deputies she had taken medication for depression and back pain prior to the incident and could not recall all of the events.

Costella has been incarcerated in Ashtabula County Jail since her arrest.
