‘Echo Taps’ returns to North Kingsville

NORTH KINGSVILLE — Armed Forces Day will be celebrated Saturday morning with a ceremony at Greenlawn Memory Gardens on Route 20 in North Kingsville.

The observance starts at 10:30 a.m., and will feature music and remarks from speakers. Included in the ceremony is the seventh annual “Echo Taps,” a multi-bugle rendition of the song led by H.D. “Marty” Martinez.

The program includes an introduction from Dean Luce, American Legion Neal Post 743 adjutant; bagpiper Gary Quine; and remarks by guest speaker Donald “Marty” Burnham, chief electronics technician, U.S. Coast Guard. North Kingsville Mayor Terrance McConnell will dedicate signs to be erected along Route 20 in memory of 1st Lt. Michael Runyon, who was killed by a roadside explosive in Iraq in July 2010 and is buried at the cemetery. Runyon’s parents are Ashtabula County natives, and he has other relatives who live in the area.

Music will be provided by the Edgewood Brass Ensemble and Emily Kline (“The Star-Spangled Banner”). Boy Scout Troop 11 will lead in the crowd in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
