PIERPONT TOWNSHIP — A Solon woman was killed Tuesday morning after a semi-tractor trailer collided with her car on Route 7.

Suzanne M. Byerley, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol reports. Byerley was a former resident of Pierpont Township.

Byerley was westbound on Marcy Road, in a 2000 Toyota Camry, approaching the intersection of Marcy Road and Route 7, reports show.

A 2001 Freightliner Columbia semi-tractor trailer, driven by Julio Vigil, 45, of West New York, N.J., was northbound on Route 7. Byerley attempted to turn south on Route 7, failed to yield the right of way and was struck by Vigil, according to reports.

“He tried to avoid her, but hit her on the driver’s door,” said Ashtabula County Coroner’s Chief Investigator Rich Mongell. “The truck driver was not hurt.”

Mongell said Byerley died from blunt trauma to the head, neck, trunk and extremities. Both units were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to reports.

Pierpont Township Fire Department and emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however toxicology tests are being conducted. Mongell said it will take 10 to 14 business days for results.

OHP is still investigating the crash.
