Arbor Day ceremony Saturday in Conneaut

CONNEAUT — Arbor Day will be celebrated in Conneaut with a 1 p.m. program Saturday at Malek Park on Parrish Road.

The observance will be held at the Dorothy Shumake arboretum at the rear of the park. Rod Raker, chairman of the Conneaut Tree Commission, will welcome guests to the event.

Program includes a color guard from American Legion Cowle Post 151, presentation of a proclamation from City Council President Thomas Udell and recognition of local residents serving in the military.

The year’s plantings in the arboretum in honor or memory of loved ones, along with contributors, will also be recalled. The honorees include Joe Zampini, Mike Ryder, KMart, Wayne Champlin, deceased graduates of the Conneaut High School class of 1963, Jim Codd, Bill Doran, Mike Mastrangelo, Charles Tubesing, Bill Hendricks, Rod Raker, Ryan Patrick White and W.K. and Grace Melton.

Tree commission news over the past year, including the city’s 29th consecutive Tree City USA award, will be shared with the crowd.
