ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — United Way of Ashtabula County will donate $586,000 to local charities this year.

The money will go to 23 agencies following a review by 62 people who have volunteered their time to serve on the United Way Community Investment Committee this year.

Volunteers have visited United Way partner charities and held a series of face-to-face meetings with agency staff and board members at Kent State University-Ashtabula Campus to discuss upcoming budgets and program successes.

Community Investment Committee members will meet next week and determine the amounts each agency will receive. They will base their decisions on needs of the community.

United Way will announce their decisions in a few weeks, said Randy Jones, executive director.
