An Ashtabula man charged with murder earlier this week remains on the run, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.
Jawann Evans is still at large, Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Terry A. Moisio confirmed Friday. “We’re still looking for him,” he said.
Deputies have received tips and are following up leads, Moisio said. Investigators believe Evans is still in the area, he said.
Evans is one of six men charged with the 16-year-old murder of Ronald “Maceo” Hull, who was gunned down Feb. 9, 1997, outside an Ashtabula apartment on West 38th Street. Money and drugs were the motives, Moisio said in a statement issued earlier in the week.
Work by two sheriff’s office detectives, Taylor Cleveland and Sean Ward, along with the cooperation of the Ohio attorney general office’s Cold Case Initiative, led to the warrants. Four of the six were arrested Tuesday morning: George L. Church and Stephen Boles, both of Ashtabula; and Troy Jones and Eric Weaver, both of Youngstown. They are scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 22 in Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court.
The sixth man, John E. Drummond Jr., is awaiting execution on a murder charge at the Chillocothe Correctional Institution, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections website. He was incarcerated in 2004.
All six have been charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping and felonious assault, Moisio said in the statement.
People with information regarding Evans’ whereabouts are asked to call the sheriff’s office (576-0055) or the U.S. Marshal’s Service tip line (1-866-4 Wanted). A reward is being offered for information that leads to Evans’ arrest.
