Keith Schreiber is Conneaut’s 2012 Citizen of the Year

CONNEAUT — Conneaut’s newest Citizen of the Year was a “Dilly” of a choice.

Keith Schreiber, co-owner of the city’s Dairy Queen Restaurant, will receive the 2012 honor at the Conneaut Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual membership dinner Tuesday night at the Moose Lodge. Also to be honored are the “Chamber Champions,” three individuals and businesses singled out for their contributions to the community.

A handful of people were nominated for the accolade, officials said. Past recipients and former Chamber presidents made the final selection, said Wendy DuBey, executive director.

“It’s an incredible honor,” Schreiber said Friday.

“Champions” were selected by Chamber board members. They are:

• Leadership Award (presented to a business or industry with a record of economic development, job creation or start-up entrepreneurship) — Wildfire Dance LLC

• President’s Award (given to a business, organization or business that best meets Chamber objectives) — Gerald Eighmy

• Professional Achieve-ment Award (presented to a business or industry with a record of career accomplishment and has made outstanding contributions to their profession, industry or community) — Joslin-Landis Insurance

Hattie Grubke-Barnard will receive the past president’s award at the dinner. Guest speaker will be State Rep. John Patterson.

Schreiber has been involved with Dairy Queen for 13 years. He started in the car wash business and later worked in industry and — before entering the restaurant trade — served as the city of Conneaut’s assistant public works director.

Dairy Queen regularly sponsors a wide range of civic programs and events.

“We enjoyed tremendous support from the community,” Schreiber said. “It’s easy to give back when you’re supported as we are.”
