GENEVA TOWNSHIP — A Conneaut man was struck and killed by an eastbound CSX train Sunday afternoon said Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office Chief Investigator Rich Mongell.

The accident occurred at the underpass at Route 20 by the University Hospital Geneva Medical Center, Mongell said. Impact occurred at 1:45 p.m. and the man who Mongell said was in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:05 p.m.

“We are not releasing the name because we have been unable to contact the family,” he said.

“He was walking eastbound on the tracks and the train blew its whistle, and he continued walking on the tracks,” Mongell said. “The train blew the whistle again, but he didn’t move and he was struck from behind. The train was also traveling eastbound.”

Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department, Geneva Police, Geneva Fire, North West Ambulance and CSX Police Department all responded to the scene.
