Ashtabula man is facing drug charge after house raided

ASHTABULA — Two people were arrested on drug charges while officers were executing a search warrant at an Ashtabula Harbor home Tuesday.

Responding to numerous complaints of suspicious drug activity at 1020 Union Ave., a police officer confronted  the renter, 28-year-old Ramone D. Holley on Saturday.

“He was told to ‘pack it up,’” detective Lt. Joseph Cellitti said. “The officer got into a foot pursuit with him.”

During the chase, Holley dumped what appeared to be some heroin, Cellitti said.

“No charges were filed and his conduct remained the same,” Cellitti said.

Shortly thereafter, police received a tip about a “Cleveland connection” who was coming to town to visit Holley, Cellitti said.

When city police and the regional SWAT team executed a search warrant at about 5 p.m. Tuesday at 1020 Union Ave., they discovered Holley, another man, a handgun and 7 grams of heroin, he said.

Police arrested Holley, who was charged with trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony, according to Municipal Court records. He is being held in the city jail.

Holley is not a stranger to local law enforcement. In the past, he’s been convicted of having dogs-at-large, disorderly conduct, possession of drugs and littering, according to Municipal Court records.

The name of other man who was arrested Tuesday is being withheld, pending his arraignment.

Municipal Judge Albert Camplese issued the search warrant.

This is the second drug raid on an Ashtabula residence in the past 10 days.

Police executed a search warrant April 18 at the home of Wanda J. Kelly, 631 W. 38th St., and seized drugs, scales, cash and pit bulls, according to police.

Kelly is facing felony drug charges.
