The “Harvest Basket” is the official collector’s basket for the 2014 Ashtabula County Fair, fair officials said Monday.
The fair will be Aug. 5-10 at the fairgrounds, 127 N. Elm St.
The Ohio-made American Traditions handcrafted maple baskets are an annual fund-raising project for Ashtabula County Fairboard Auxiliary.
This basket has a swing handle, star tack covers, plastic protector and cloth liner, as well as an engraved brass plate with Ashtabula County Fair - Jefferson, Ohio - 2014. Cost: $45. Call 440-228-8414 to order.
The money received from the sale of the baskets help beautify the fairgrounds, repair and replace items, support education, 4-H and scholarships.
“Small or large, the Fairboard Auxiliary will tackle the job with enthusiasm,” said Jayne R. Bodnar, public relations officer for the Auxiliary.
Auxiliary members also are sponsoring a beautification contest that’s open to any non-profit organization or individuals who like to garden. The results help adorn the fairgrounds with flowers, plants and shrubs. Call 440-275-6413 or 440-221-7541 to reserve a space.
During fair week, the Auxiliary sells flowers and hosts a pie and cookie auction in the Expo building to raise additional funds.
Bodnar said the group works hard to assist the Senior Fair Board.
The board has booked the Swon Brothers from NBC’s hit TV show, “The Voice,” to entertain the crowd on Aug. 9 in front of the grandstands.
The country music duo from Oklahoma, brothers Zach and Colton Swon, garnered third place in the show’s fourth season’s finale last June.
“The Voice,” judge Blake Shelton, who performed at the Ashtabula County Fair in 2005, was their coach.
Tickets for the Swon Brothers will go on sale at 10 a.m. July 8 at the fair secretary’s office under the big grandstand at the fairgrounds.
