Saybrook fiscal officer, Joyce Crease, withdraws petition for election

SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Fiscal Officer Joyce Crease no longer plans to seek election this November and will retire from the township at year’s end.

Crease withdrew her petition from the Ashtabula County Board of Elections Friday, citing family obligations as the reason for her decision.

Crease was appointed, by the Saybrook Township trustees, last July to fill the unexpired term of former fiscal officer Marc Pope. Before that, she served as office manager of the township for more than 20 years.

Crease said she wanted to formally announce her retirement plans so Saybrook Township residents are aware that a fiscal officer is needed.

“I figured this was the best way to get the best person for the job,” she said. “Hopefully someone will step up.”

Residents interested in running for fiscal officer in the Nov. 5 election have until Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. to complete and return the required petition to the board of elections.

Any resident of Saybrook Township, including those in the incorporated area of the township, that is a registered voter and over the age of 18, can hold the office. The position is non-partisan.

Interested parties will need to obtain 25 to 75 signatures, from registered voters of the township, before filing the petition, according to the Ashtabula County Board of Elections.

Crease said it has been an honor to serve the residents of Saybrook over the years.

“I would like to thank all our residents, the employees with whom I have been blessed to work with and our former trustees for working together in the best interest of Saybrook Township,” she said.
