Two charged in knife assault

GENEVA TOWNSHIP — Two men were charged Monday after an alleged assault involving a knife over the weekend.

Edwin Borrero, 25, of 6046 North Ridge Road W. #9, Geneva Township, was arraigned in Western County Court and charged with one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Borrero allegedly slashed a male victim’s neck with a knife early Saturday morning, according to reports. The victim also sustained a defensive wound to his hand from the knife.

Miguel Alicia, also known as Miguel Alicia Garcia, 42, of 3107 S. Meyers Road, Geneva Township, was arraigned Monday in Western County Court and charged with one count of intimidation of a crime victim or witness, a first-degree misdemeanor; one count of harassing a police dog, a second-degree misdemeanor; one count of aggravated disorderly conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor; and one count of misconduct at an emergency, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, according to court records.

Deputies were dispatched to Slyyders Bar and Grill in Geneva Township at about 3:18 a.m. Saturday for a report of a male with lacerations to his neck from a knife.

The victim told deputies he was invited out for a drink at Slyyders with Borrero and Alicia, whom he knows from a work camp, where he resides. The three men reportedly walked to the bar, had one drink and returned to the work camp, according to reports.

Upon returning, the victim and Borrero reportedly became involved in an argument over the victim trying to talk to women at bars. Alicia then reportedly became involved in the argument, siding with Borrero. The argument escalated into a heated argument during which time Borrero allegedly brandished a knife at the victim and began to chase him from the front of the work camp toward the wooded area behind it, according to reports.

The victim told deputies, Borrero caught up to him and “swiped the knife toward him,” cutting his neck. The two then reportedly engaged in a physical struggle and in an attempt to prevent Borrero from further cutting him, the victim received a defensive wound to his hand, according to reports.

The victim then reportedly ran away and headed toward Slyyders.

Deputies arrived at the labor camp to make contact with Borrero, who told deputies he was the person they were looking for and admitted to the assault. He was handcuffed and searched for weapons. During that time, Alicia was reported as having been stabbed by the victim several times with a knife.

Deputies observed three small cuts on Alicia’s back that were not consistent with stab wounds; however, Alicia was transported to UH Geneva Medical Center for treatment.

Once Alicia was discharged from the hospital, he was arrested.

Preliminary hearings for Borrero and Alicia have not been set yet.
