Statue donated to Geneva American Legion Post

GENEVA — The statue means a lot to many people, and Denny Pasqualone wanted to make sure it honored the lost, wounded and living heroes of Ashtabula County.

Pasqualone donated a statue of a U.S. Marine in combat and carrying a wounded comrade on his shoulder, to the American Legion Post 124.

The statue, which rests on a concrete block and has an engraved granite marker, includes the inscription “Angels Cry When Warriors Die.”

A veteran of the U.S. Navy during Vietnam, Pasqualone said he was inspired by a book called “Tears of a Warrior,” given to him by Veteran’s Service Commission representative Fanny Swiger.

“The saying alone will man a lot to comrades in service,” he said.

The carved granite inscription was donated by Ron Belding of Belding Monuments.

“I can’t thank him enough for making this statue dedication possible,” Pasqualone said.

Local artist Shirley Miller helped “bring the statue to life” with paint, he said.

“I think it really looks nice,” Pasqualone said.

The message, he said, is enduring heroism and enduring thanks to the soldiers and servicemen and women who risk their lives and give their all, sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice.

“This is a humble salute to our American veterans here in Ashtabula County and throughout America,” he said. “God Bless all who served.”
