A village woman was killed Friday afternoon when her car crashed into a tree along North Lake Street (Route 528), said Madison Patrolman Ralf Caswell.
“The crash involved a single vehicle which was northbound on N. Lake St. (Route 528). The female driver, Karen Saeger, a 55-year-old Madison village resident lost control of the vehicle and went off the right side of the road across the sidewalk, through a small ditch and into two small trees before striking a large tree,” Caswell said.
The crash occurred across the street from 899 N. Lake St., he said. Caswell said the drier went less than a foot left of center and went back to the right side of the road where the crash occurred.
“The call came in at 4:37 p.m.,” Caswell said.
He said Saeger was taken to the emergency room at Lake Health Madison Emergency Room where she was pronounced dead.
Caswell said it is unclear what caused the crash and it is still under investigation.
He said the Lake County coroner is handling the investigation and it was unclear where the autopsy will be performed. “If the autopsy is done in Cleveland it will be several weeks before the results are available,” he said.
Caswell said the Madison Fire Department responded to the scene and the Madison Township Police Department assisted as well.
