Suspected gunman charged with attempted murder in Nov. 16 Ashtabula incident

JEFFERSON — A 19-year-old Ashtabula man accused of shooting a man three times in the leg Nov. 16 on West 36th Street was charged with attempted murder in Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court Friday.

Terrell Jones, 3013 Larson Lane, was arraigned on charges of attempted murder with a firearm specification, a first-degree felony, and felonious assault, a second-degree felony, court records show.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

He was given a $250,000 cash or surety bond by Common Pleas Judge Alfred Mackey.

Jones, who was wanted for the past two months in connection with several shootings, was the subject of an intensive manhunt in Ohio and New York, police said.

He was arrested last month on West 30th Street in Ashtabula, thanks to a cooperative effort by the Ashtabula Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and the FBI.

“We got tidbits of information that he was back in Ashtabula,” Ashtabula Police Lt. Joseph Cellitti said. “Surprisingly, when we found him, he didn’t fight.”

Capturing Jones was a top priority for city police, so they asked the U.S. Marshals to help them.

During their investigation, police found shell casings on West 36th Street between Lake and Station avenues, according to police reports.

The victim has recovered from the bullet wounds, police said.

The U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is comprised of officers from Ashtabula, Geauga and Lake counties. Local agencies that contribute personnel to the force include Ashtabula Police Department, Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, Conneaut Police Department, North Kingsville Police Department and Adult Parole and Probation.
