Conneaut Foundation awards grants

CONNEAUT — Twelve community-based grants totaling more than $71,000 were recently announced by The Conneaut Foundation, according to a statement.

The grants were bestowed to assist a wide range of organizations and projects in Conneaut and the region.

“The board is pleased to be able to support such a diverse group of non-profits in the region,” said J.J. Eaton, Conneaut Foundation board of trustees president. “We received requests from many deserving organizations.”

The 2013 grant recipients are:

• American Red Cross’ Ashtabula County chapter for disaster assistance

• Ashtabula Homeless Shelter to buy and install a generator and security system

• Conneaut Local Youth Organization for a tractor with a front-end loader for maintenance of the Skippon Park ball fields and facilities

• D-Day Ohio for shuttle bus services and on-site transportation during the annual battle re-enactment in August

• G.O. Community Development Corporation for an expansion of its soup kitchen

• Grand Valley Public Library to purchase materials for second- and third-grade students who have failed or at risk of failing the third-grade reading test

• ICAN Consortium of Libraries to purchase books

• Northman Grove Arts Settlement for equipment, including a lighting system and instruments

• Pairings Ohio’s Wine and Culinary Experience for the renovation and construction of “Windows on Pairings,” a storefront in Geneva that will offer wine, culinary and agricultural-related services and programs for entrepreneurs and visitors

• Rustler Ranch Inc., to buy adaptive equipment for the care of therapeutic riding horses

• Springfield, Pa., Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of equipment for agricultural and heavy equipment rescue

• United Way of Ashtabula County in support of a collaboration with public libraries in Ashtabula County, Head Start and “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library” to provide free books to children under age 5

Members of the Foundation’s board took a hands-on approach to their research of the applicants, Eaton said.

“To aid in our decision-making, a board member visited each of the applicants,” he said. “Site visits are an excellent opportunity for us to learn first-hand about the amazing work being done in our region.”

The Conneaut Foundation, a privately-administered entity serving Ashtabula County and Springfield Township, Pa., was formed in 1997 to change lives via a permanent community endowment. For more information on giving options, call 440-599-8004 or visit www.ConneautFoundation.org.
