Chardon Post investigating fatal motorcycle crash

MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP — A 67-year-old Andover man is dead following an early morning crash at the intersection of Route 87 and Hayes Road Wednesday, according to the Chardon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Charles Linn of Andover was driving a 1986 Suzuki Cavalcade motorcycle westbound on Route 87 and a Volvo garbage truck was traveling eastbound at about 6:50 a.m., according to OHP reports.

The garbage truck attempted to turn left on Hayes Road and failed to yield to the motorcycle. Linn traveled left of center to avoid the collision but struck the right rear of the garbage truck, OHP reports show.

A 2001 Honda CRV was traveling eastbound on Route 87 behind the garbage truck and struck the motorcycle after its initial impact with the garbage truck, according to OHP.

Linn was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash and died of his injuries at the scene, the OHP report shows.

The garbage truck was operated by Kevin Radke, 41, of Solon.  The passenger was Christopher Ashburn of Streetsboro. Both men were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured, OHP said.

The Honda CRV was driven by Cari Barath, 31, of Mesopotania. She had a 1-year-old passenger in her vehicle. Both occupants had their safety belts on and were not injured, OHP said.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash at this time, OHP reports said. The crash is under investigation.
