Dog walk raises money for bridge, APL

Staff Writer

HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP — Dogs of all sizes (and their owners) are invited to the annual Bark at the Bridge dog walk on June 23 at the Harpersfield Covered Bridge.

The event will serve as a fundraiser for both the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League and the Friends of the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark.

“We are always so appreciative when people or groups make an effort to fundraise on the APL’s behalf,” APL vice president Irene Fiala said. “Dog walks and fun events really keep the public in tune with the shelter’s needs and the animals available for adoption.”

The third annual Bark and the Bridge dog walk at the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark begins at 1 p.m. Pets and people will go on a one-mile walk across the Harpersfield Covered Bridge.

All dogs get a treat bag of goodies to take home. Prizes will be given to the best-dressed dog in summer clothes.

The walk includes a demonstration by Man’s Best Friend Dog Training, pet adoptions with the APL, photography from Way Back Farm, music, and refreshments.

The day will also include games, contests, prizes and the best dressed dog in summer attire will win a 30 pound bag of dog food.

“The beautiful bridge in the background and a park full of dogs is a fantastic way to spend the day,” Fiala said.

Dogs from the APL will be available for adoption, and donations of needed shelter items, including Purina brand dry cat and dog food and any brand canned cat and dog food, will be accepted.

The shelter also needs paper towels, Clorox brand bleach, towels, and CatSip brand kitten formula.
