Part of State Road to close as part of $68 million project

A $68 million highway project will get under way Monday in Plymouth Township with the closing of a portion of State Road over Interstate 90.

The road will be closed through early October as part of a huge project. The detour will be Seven Hills Road to Jefferson Road to Route 46.

Justin Chesnic, District 4 spokesman for the Ohio Department of Transportation, said the work will affect I-90 between state routes 11 and 45.

The project’s main focus is the redesign of the interchange at I-90 and Route 11 — the site of many motor vehicle accidents as drivers attempt to go east on I-90. The project includes buying more land to eliminate the dangerous 90-degree turns on the access ramps off Route 11.

The proposed eastbound I-90 ramp will be designed to a 45 -mph design speed alignment. Also proposed as a part of the project is the permanent closure of Carson Road to traffic under Route 11 and the proposed ramps.

Repairs to seven bridges along this section of the interstate also are part of the project, as well as an I-90 bridge over the Western Reserve Greenway.

“This project will replace the pavement along I-90 and also modify the ramps at I-90 and Route 11,” Chesnic said.

In April, the Carson Road and State Road intersection also will close for about 30 days for road work, he said.

The entire project’s completion date is 2016.
