Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department to get 5 new cars

JEFFERSON — Ashtabula County commissioners, Thursday, approved the purchase of five new cruisers for the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of a new vehicle for Sheriff William Johnson, which will be paid from out of the sheriff’s furtherance of justice (FOJ) funds from previous years. The sheriff’s vehicle did not come out of this year’s budget, he said.

The county will purchase five 2014 Dodge Chargers from Great Lakes Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram in Kingsville at a cost of $21,796 each. Great Lakes came in with a cost below the State Purchasing price, allowing the county to purchase the vehicles locally.

Commissioners also approved a $350,000 transfer from the Ashtabula County Clerk of Courts’ Certificate of Title Administration Fund, which will assist the sheriff with his budget crisis as well as pay for the purchase of the five cruisers.

A portion of the $350,000 was intended for the lease of 10 cruisers, but commissioners ultimately decided to purchase five instead of leasing.

In other business, commissioners approved:

• A resolution receiving bids and awarding for miscellaneous material and equipment rental for the Ashtabula County Highway Department;

• A resolution receiving bids and awarding for aggregate to Pinney Dock and Transport and T.W. Benson Trucking Inc. through the Ashtabula County Engineer’s Office;

• A resolution receiving bids and awarding to Suit-Kote Corp. for asphalt emulsion through the Ashtabula County Engineer’s Office;

• A resolution approving a voluntary demolition agreement with University Church of Christ in Andover;

• A resolution approving CodeRED services agreement with Emergency Communications Network including a weather warning service addendum and IPAWS addendum through the Ashtabula County Emergency Management Agency;

• A resolution updating and authorizing a four-year capital and operating plan for the Ashtabula County Transportation System (ACTS) with the Ohio Department of Transportation; and,

• A resolution authorizing the purchase and approving a lease agreement with Shaker Auto Lease, Inc. for a 2014 paratransit bus for the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Commissioners also approved a number of financial transactions for the county including travel requests and payroll adjustments.
