Traffic stop results in drug arrest

JEFFERSON — Ashtabula County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 32-year-old female passenger during a traffic stop at the corner of West Satin and South Chestnut Streets, for suspicion of illegal possession of Adderall, a Schedule II narcotic, around 11 p.m., Thursday.

Adderall is a prescription medication used in the treatment of narcolepsy and attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder.

The deputy initiated a stop because the vehicle had an “excessively loud exhaust system,” according to the report.

During the stop, the deputy noticed the driver’s eyes were “dilated, she was sweating even though it was very cold, and she was twitching.” He determined there was reasonable cause, so he initiated a search for narcotics. None was found in the vehicle. The driver was cited for the loud exhaust and released.

The passenger, Alicia M. Gibson, of Jefferson, was found with prescription amphetamines in her purse that belonged to another person. Gibson was arrested and transported to the Ashtabula County Jail.

Further investigation will identify the suspected medications found.
