Winter Fun Days full of fun

JAMESTOWN, Pa. - - Winter Fun Days at Pymatuning State Park is just around the corner with a full schedule of events planned for the whole weekend.

The annual event, sponsored by Pymatuning Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club, will be held Feb. 10 and 11 at Pymatuning State Park near the dam by Beach 2, Shelter 4. The community event is in it's 31st year and will be held regardless of the weather.

There is no charge for the event. Food will be sold in the pavilion. Breakfast is served at 7 a.m. and lunch starts at 11 a.m. All snowmobile events will take place only with a minimum of 4 inches of snow required to ride in the park.

Both days will feature free horse-drawn and tractor-drawn hayrides; free snowmobile rides for children; snowmobile trail rides (with snow); ice safety and ice fishing demonstrations by Fish and Boat Commission (weather permitting); used snowmobile clothing and accessories sale (public welcome to sell sleds and trailers for a small registration fee); children's sled riding; ice skating (if lake is frozen. Bring own skates); and children's crafts.

Pymatuning Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club, Inc., established in 1972, is a non-profit organization for the purpose of promoting safe snowmobiling and establishing trails in the area. The club currently has approximately 100 miles of local designated trails.

A portion of these trails are located on private property where permission has been received from landowners. In appreciation to them, all landowners are invited to a breakfast each spring.

As a community service organization, the club provides services to the local community. The biggest project is the annual Winter Fund Days.

A kitchen addition was built by the club onto Shelter 4, at Pymatuning State Park, in 1997, for use by the public and other organizations.

Each fall, a free snowmobile safety training class is offered to all 10 to 16 year olds. Adults also are welcome. Monetary and food donations are given to provide needy families and shut-ins with boxes during the holiday season.
