Two charged in alleged knife assault

JEFFERSON — Two men were arrested early Monday morning following an alleged assault involving a knife in Rock Creek.

David O’Meara, 28, of 4483 Rome Rock Creek Road, Rome Township and John Fuller, 61, of 2893 E. Water St., Rock Creek, were arraigned Monday on misdemeanor assault charges. Both men were released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond and were ordered to have no contact with each other, according to court records.

Deputies were dispatched to the East Water Street residence just after 5 a.m. While deputies were en route, dispatch received a second call from a woman reportedly screaming that someone had been stabbed, according to reports.

When deputies arrived on the scene, Fuller was sitting near the driveway with several scrapes on his body, knees bleeding and abrasions on the top of his head and back. Deputies also observed blood drops on the ground and steps leading to the house. There was also damage to the front door, according to reports.

O’Meara’s mother, who is also Fuller’s wife, was inside the house and told deputies her husband stabbed her son. O’Meara reportedly had blood coming from his palm and a “slicing-type superficial wound” to his left upper arm, according to reports.

He told deputies Fuller stabbed him with a kitchen knife that was last seen in the driveway.

Witnesses told deputies an argument started between O’Meara and his sister, according to reports.

Fuller reportedly woke his wife up and told her to deal with her kids fighting. Shortly after, O’Meara allegedly punched Fuller in the mouth through the screen door, causing the damage to the door, and the two began to fight, according to reports.

Fuller told deputies he does not remember seeing or using a knife. Deputies were unable to locate a knife, according to reports.

Both men were arrested and transported to Ashtabula County Jail. Fuller and O’Meara were both charged with assault, a first- degree misdemeanor.
