Family hopes to re-open Woody’s Grub-N-Pub soon

ORWELL — Years of hard work went up in smoke Wednesday afternoon when fire ripped through Woody’s Grub-N-Pub.

Debby Woodworth, one of the family owners, said they bought the building and rebuilt it to their needs. “We’ve been here a total of nine years,” she said.

Woodworth said the fire occurred around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after the restaurant closed at 2 p.m. “We got here and the fire department already had it out,” she said.

“We don’t know yet how it started,” she said as an insurance adjuster roamed the building taking pictures. Woodworth said the cause may have been electrical in nature.

“I cried for two days. We did this all by ourselves,” she said of the development of the business. Woodworth said she hopes to open as soon as possible.

“The town has been very helpful,” Woodworth said. She said many people asked what they could do to help the family business get back on its feet.

The Orwell Fire Department battled the blaze with the help of numerous area volunteer fire departments.
