A Senior Prom for Ashtabula County residents is coming to Conneaut next week, but the invitees won’t be worrying about pimples.
This Prom is geared to party-goers age 55 and up, and is being held in the cavernous party room at the Conneaut Human Resources Center, 327 Mill St. The event begins at 5 p.m. and will feature a dinner prepared by Phil’s Catering and entertainment by Dennis Ford.
Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at senior centers in Conneaut (593-5273), Ashtabula (998-6750), Jefferson (576-9052) and Geneva (466-3048). Reservations are needed by Tuesday.
New this year will be the selection of a Prom King and Queen by the attendees, said Marilyn Telega, director of the CHRC’s Seniors Together program.
This year’s theme is “Putting on the Ritz,” and will feature decorations with a Hollywood look — including gigantic murals of movie stars created last year by inmates at the Lake Erie Correctional Institution.
This is not a dressy ball and casual clothes are welcome, organizers have said. The Prom, held annually at different venues, was created in 2005 to get the county’s older residents out of their homes and into a social setting, organizers said recently.
Senior advocates are spreading the word among centers and independent/assisted living facilities in the area to garner a good crowd. People who need transportation to Conneaut should contact their local senior citizens center, Telega said.
“It’s a beautiful evening with great food and lots of fun,” she said earlier this month.
