Questions remain about Saturday’s shooting

ASHTABULA — An 18-year-old man was shot Saturday on the city’s west side but why and how it happened is unclear, Chief Robert Stell said.

Police received a call of a disturbance at 1415 Perryville Place at 5:03 p.m., according to police reports.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a man with a gunshot wound, Stell said.

The victim was transported to the hospital, he said. His condition was unknown Tuesday, he said.

Stell said witnesses gave police conflicting stories of what happened prior to the gun fire, whether it was a dispute over something or an accidental shooting.

The incident is under investigation and no further details are being released at this time, he said.
