Deputies find big pot farm inside house in Saybrook

SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — A massive indoor marijuana “farm” was discovered Friday morning inside a house on McNutt Avenue in Saybrook Township, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.

A two-story, frame house at 6031 McNutt contained more than 500 plants and a wide array of growing equipment and apparatus, said Lt. Terry Moisio. Money and firearms were also confiscated, he said.

One man was inside the house when deputies, accompanied by agents with the Drug Enforcement Agency, served a search warrant, he said.

Charges are pending, including possible federal charges because of the number of plants and the extent of the growing operation, Moisio said. In addition to the plants, lights and other cultivation equipment were discovered, he said.

“We found a very large marijuana-growing operation” Moisio said. “It was all over the house.”

Plants that were boxed and bagged by law enforcement filled the beds of three pickup trucks, according to reports.

Friday’s raid began with a tip received several months ago, deputies said. Detective Taylor Cleveland with the sheriff’s office led the investigation, which is continuing, Moisio said.

Moisio declined to say if the man found inside the house would be charged. The man was cooperative, Moisio said.
