The Ashtabula County District Library will ask voters to pass a new tax levy come November.
Ashtabula County commissioners approved a resolution, Tuesday, to place a new 1.25 mill levy on the Nov. 5 ballot.
The Ashtabula County Auditor has certified the levy will generate $1,088,577 during its first year of collection, based on the current assessed valuation of the Ashtabula County District Library service area of $916,696,550.
The levy will be used to cover operating expenses for the Ashtabula County District Library for 10 years.
In other business, commissioners rejected all three bids the county received for the first phase of the Ashtabula County Department of Job and Family Services building addition.
The Ashtabula County Engineer estimated the project at $190,000 and all three bids exceeded that estimate by 10 percent.
Hughes Roller Building Co., of Ashtabula, submitted a base bid of $293,800, Housel Construction, Inc., of Jefferson, submitted a base bid of $256,477 and Declan Construction Inc., of Brookfield, submitted a base bid of $302,000.
Commissioners also approved:
• A resolution appointing and re-appointing members to the Ashtabula County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC);
• A resolution declaring it necessary for an additional .5 mill tax levy for the Children Services Board; and,
• A resolution requesting the Ashtabula County Auditor remove certain sewer assessments from the 2013 taxes to be collected in 2014.
Commissioners also approved a number of financial transaction for the county.
