Man arrested, pot plants seized in Conneaut raid

CONNEAUT — Charges are pending against a Conneaut man found on the premises a marijuana growing operation on Benjamin Street on Friday morning, police said.

Kenneth Ramey II, 47, 518 Benjamin St., has been charged with possession of criminal tools, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, a Conneaut Municipal Court spokeswoman said late Monday afternoon. Additional charges are possible, she said. Ramey, taken to jail after his arrest, was expected to be released following an arraignment, the spokeswoman said.

Officers were contacted last week by different people via a tip line regarding a possible drug situation at 518 Benjamin St., Police Chief Charles Burlingham said Monday. Police obtained a search warrant from Conneaut Municipal Court and officers went to the address around 9:45 a.m.

Behind the house people found 21 plants growing behind a stockade-style fence, Burlingham said. The fence helped hide the plants from view, he said. Inside the house police found equipment used to dry the plants, Burlingham said.

Police also confiscated other drug paraphernalia and several firearms, according to a report. Ramey was on the premises and did not resist arrest, Burlingham said. Police are looking for a second man believed to be involved in the operation, the chief said.
