N. Kingsville celebrates 100th birthday

NORTH KINGSVILLE —  A century of history was celebrated by hundreds of people on Saturday as the village commemorated its 100th birthday.

Hundreds of people lined Route 193 to see a parade complete with marching bands, fire trucks and festival royalty.

“We live just down the road and we just wanted to see (what was happening),” said Sarah Stuyvesant.

A variety of organizations and individuals were featured in the parade that lasted about 20 minutes and included the Edgewood High School marching Band, veterans organizations, antique cars and many other unique units.

Helen Goode, who has lived in North Kingsville for almost half a century, said the parade and other festivities were “excellent”. “This is wonderful. It brings back a lot of memories. I’m proud of North Kingsville,” she said.

Emmy Mauro was the chairwoman of the committee that made the event a reality. After the parade ended on Hewitt Lane the event kicked into full gear on the property of Gary Hewitt and Mike Baldwin.

“This community pulled together,” she said.

Hundreds of people gathered in front of a temporary stage to hear area politicians celebrate the 100th birthday.

Valerie Marin, a singer who has performed throughout the United States, sang the National Anthem with the Edgewood High School Band.

Eric Nesbit urged people to sign items to be placed in a time capsule and buried in Eastlake Cemetery. He said the time capsule will be buried in the next month or so.
