‘Dangerous’ fugitive arrested in Ashtabula

ASHTABULA — Thanks to tipsters, police scratched a local name off a list of the most-wanted criminals in the region.

Nelson Rosado, 36, just named Monday to the “Dangerous Dozen” list compiled by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, was arrested without incident Thursday morning in Ashtabula, the U.S. Marshal’s office announced in a statement released late Thursday afternoon. NOVFTF officers, assisted by the Ashtabula Police Department, found Rosado in a house in the 600 block of Lake Avenue, according to the statement. His arrest came one day after a Star Beacon story announced that Rosado had been named to November’s “Dangerous” list.

“The success of the ‘Dangerous Dozen’ most-wanted list speaks for itself,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in the statement. “Each week, the citizens of northern Ohio come forward with information on these fugitives and together we will get each violent offender off the streets.”

NOVFTF began receiving tips from the Ashtabula area residents about Rosado’s whereabouts soon after the “Dangerous Dozen” announcement was publicized by the media, according to the statement. During an investigation, officers learned Rosado may be staying with a woman on Lake Avenue. Rosado was found inside the house around 8:30 a.m. and surrendered without a struggle, officers said. Rosado was taken to Ashtabula city jail, according to the statement.

He had been wanted by city police on charges of aggravated robbery and felonious assault stemming from a March incident in the city, according to reports. Rosado allegedly lured a man to a parking lot and then robbed and assaulted him, inflicting severe head injuries.

NOVFTF is comprised of law enforcement officers from a number of municipal, county and federal agencies.
