Dr. Abi Sundaramoorthy

Open house ahead for new physician

CONNEAUT — A new internal medicine physician, Dr. Abi Sundaramoorthy, has begun her practice in Conneaut and at the UH Conneaut Medical Center.

A reception for Sundaramoorthy will be held 3:30-6 p.m. Nov. 13 at Conneaut Primary Care, 167 F W. Main Road, the location of her office which opened on Friday.

“My main interests include the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems,” she said in a statement. “I’ll be focusing on patients with cardiovascular disease and helping them reduce their risk factors, like smoking, hypertension and high cholesterol. I want to promote good heart and lung health in the Conneaut community.”

Sundaramoorthy is a welcome presence, said Robert David, president of UH Conneaut and Geneva medical centers.

“The recruitment of Dr. Abi Sundaramoorthy to Conneaut is tremendous,” he said in the statement. “She is a very kind, caring, energetic, bright and articulate physician who brings a wealth of talent to our community. I couldn’t be happier for the residents of Conneaut, knowing they now have access to a medical expert like Dr. Abi.”

Diabetes management and prevention is another of Sundaramoorthy’s clinical interests.

“With diabetes, many aspects of the disease and its effects on quality of life are within patients’ control and can be improved by the choices they make,” she said in the statement. “With my training, I feel I can make a positive impact on the Conneaut community with individualized diabetes education and care.”

Sundaramoorthy also plans to become active in civic affairs.

“I want to be involved with this community, especially its children,” she said in the statement. “One of my personal interests has always been working with disadvantaged kids, finding what their strengths are and helping them find the resources to put them on the right track so they can be good citizens and contribute to their community.”

A native of Canada, Sundaramoorthy received her medical degree from St. Georges University in Grenada, West Indies, in 2010. She comes to the area after completing her internal medicine residency at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
