North Kingsville events top Halloween agenda

Ghosts and goblins will be seeking Halloween treats and good-natured scares in a variety of communities this evening.

Much of the fun is centered in North Kingsville, where village leaders will hold their third annual Trunk or Treat event in the municipal building parking lot between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Vehicles adorned in seasonal finery will be parked in the lot and kids will be invited to visit each one for goodies. The event is particularly popular with folks who donÕt feel safe with door-to-door trick-or-treating, said Mayor Terry McConnell. Hayrides will be available.

Just a couple of miles from village hall is "Haunt on Hendrick," a spooky display at 2837 Hendrick Lane in North Kingsville (off Route 193). The free display, marking its 13th year, will be open 7:30-9:30 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday, organizers said.

Another Halloween tradition, "Haunt on Williams Street," concludes its season tonight at 585 Williams St. The award-winning display is celebrating 23 years of scaring the bejeebers out of people.

Trick-or-treat hours are being observed tonight and Saturday in several communities, according to schedules submitted to the Star Beacon. Communities celebrating tonight include Ashtabula Township (5-7 p.m.), Conneaut (5-7 p.m.), North Kingsville (5:30-7:30 p.m.) and Sheffield Township (6-8 p.m.) Saturday hours are on tap in: Ashtabula (5-7 p.m.), Saybrook Township (5-7 p.m.), Plymouth Township (5-7 p.m.) and Kingsville Township (5-7 p.m.)

Kids still undecided about their Halloween costumes for tonight may want to consider Mary Poppins and her famous umbrella. While temperatures will be relatively mild, the National Weather Service sees a 70 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms with strong winds. Conneaut City Manager Tim Eggleston, in a statement, said there's a chance Trick-or-Treat could be postponed until Saturday if the forecast is unfavorable. If the event is delayed, it will be announced this morning, he said.
