Geneva BOE sells Memorial Field to city for a dollar

GENEVA —

After years of conjecture and rumor, the fate of Geneva's Memorial Field has finally been determined.

The Geneva Area City Board of Education has sold the multi-sport athletics field to the City of Geneva for one dollar.

Board member, Jessica Wilt, cast the lone no vote saying the Board of Education was absorbing too much of the closing costs for the sale. The board discussed the issue briefly, and then the vote took place.

No contracts have been signed, and no actual closing is arranged. All costs are to be paid by the school board.

"I voted against it because I thought it was wrong that we were expected to pay the whole closing cost," Wilt said. "I think the city should have put up a fair share."

Wilt compared the sale of the field to paying someone to buy something from you.

"I just wish this was more equitable and the city would help with the closing costs," Wilt said.

The closing costs for the sale of Memorial Field to the city by the school board will range from between $1,200 and $1,500.
