Get a new fitness experience at A-County Cross Fit

GENEVA — The space at A-County Cross Fit in Geneva may be sparse, but it is full of opportunities and possibilities, owner John Fortune said.

“This is not your traditional gym,” Fortune said. “We are here to offer a new fitness experience.”

Cross Fit is a constantly varied workout of functional movements in high-intensity circuit training. The hour-long classes include the workout of the day – a power fitness routine tailor made for anyone of any fitness and athletic ability.

“We scale the workouts to each individual person’s ability,” Fortune said. “Cross Fit may look intimidating, but I promise – it’s for everyone, not just power lifters.”

Fortune is so sure people will fall in love with this new way to work out, he is offering three free classes for new customers.

“I figure, why make people sign up for something they don’t know anything about at first? So come in, take three classes with me and then decide if Cross Fit is for you,” he said.

Located in the Colonel’s Plaza next to the Subway sandwich shop, A-County Cross Fit opened just three weeks ago. Fortune said he started Cross Fit just eight months ago, but fell in love with this alternative way to work out. Fortune is a certified Level One Cross Fit Instructor.

“I’m very competitive and I wanted to compete in Cross Fit,” he said. “I saw this on TV and thought ‘I want to do that!’”

But the much-hyped, high-level workouts shouldn’t discourage people from trying Cross Fit.

“If people who haven’t worked out before go into a gym, they start throwing weights around with no guidance,” he said. “Here, our workouts are strategic. This gives people structure in that when you walk in here, you get a personal trainer every time. “

But people who are serious about lifting can train for major competition here, too.

“For people who do work out seriously, this is a different place,” he said. “For them, this is a competitive atmosphere that helps to push you to do your best.”
