ASHTABULA — A daycare soon will be moving north on Main Avenue as Signature Health gets closer to moving into the former Hotel Ashtabula.

Burns’ Kids College, now at 4726 Main Ave. (on the backside of the first floor of the old hotel), will move to the completely remodeled old Social Security office, located next door to the Ashtabula City Fire Station, said Charlie Borsukoff of JCI Contractors, who was the general contractor on this project.

“The 12,000-square-foot building was completely gutted and converted into a state-of-the-art daycare center,” he said. “It took four months to renovate and everything is completely new.”

JCI Contractors, Inc. provided the design-build services to the owner of the building, 4314 Main Avenue LLC (the same owners as the Hotel Ashtabula). The project had a price tag of about $650,000 (building purchase and construction).

Valdia Burns is the owner of Burns’ Kids College (she leases the building from 4314 Main Avenue LLC). She plans to move into the new space by the end of August.

The new digs boast colorful walls — inside and out — and Burns chose the colors herself. There’s a kitchen, gym, classrooms, a large infant room, play areas, administrative offices and two reception areas.

The facility can accommodate 120 children, infants to school-age. Burns’ now has about 100 children enrolled.

Burns’ Kids College employs four full-time and 11 part-time people. The move will allow the daycare to hire one additional full-time and two additional part-time employees.
