Ashtabula County commissioners award local firm bid for Harpersfield booster station project

JEFFERSON — A local firm was awarded the bid for the Harpersfield Township booster station project, Tuesday.

Ashtabula County Commissioners awarded the project to CIR Inc., of Geneva, Tuesday, at their regular meeting. Two bids were received for the project, estimated by the Ashtabula County Engineer’s Office as costing $515,000. The bids were received from Nerone & Sons, Inc. out of Cleveland and CIR.

The bids were opened May 15, with CIR coming in the lowest at $509,640.74 to complete the project. Nerone & Sons bid came in at $563,340.

It has been a long time coming for this project to get under way, as discussions first began in 2007.

“Debbie Newcomb was still a commissioner when this project got started,” said Larry Meaney, director of the Ashtabula County Department of Environmental Services.

The booster station project’s primary funding source is the Ohio Public Works Commission. In addition to providing more reliable water service in the Harpersfield Township area, the station would change the way the county sells bulk water to individuals who fill their jugs and tanks at the existing bulk water depot.

In other business, commissioners awarded the bid for asphalt emulsion to Russell Standard Corp., of Akron. The county engineer’s estimate was $639,050. Russell Standard Corp. bid the lowest at $574,055. The county received one other bid from Suit-Kote Corp. of Meadville, Pa. Suit-Kote’s bid was $595,400.

Commissioners also awarded bids for aggregate to R.W. Sidley, of Painesville, Simak Trucking & Excavating, of North Kingsville, and Pinney Dock & Transport, of Ashtabula.
